Wallkill Hamlet Center - Seamless Architectural Blending
Hillside Communities carefully selected local architect Barbara Corwin for her extensive knowledge of regional architectural influences and style. Our shared objective was not to copy the past, but to emulate the familiar providing a comfortable blending of local, historically-oriented style with modern convenience and practical utility.
Architectural cues from the hamlet and the Borden farm are reflected in the recession of garages (reminiscent of existing area carriage houses/barns) to the rear of residential properties. Exterior paint colors are designed to perceptually recede these barn/garages further while attached housing appears more prominent, providing depth within the massed, clustered design.
The detail of turned posts, standing-seam metal roofing on porches reminiscent of former tin roofs, dormers, turrets, decorative corbels and rafter tails all reflect the Picturesque architectural style made prominent in the Hudson River Valley in the mid-19th century by Calvert Vaux.
